Socialist Republic of Vietnam
Dalat was founded around the turn of the century, as a mountain
retreat from the oppressive tropical climate. The town is perched
1,500 meters above sea level in Vietnam's central highlands and
is home to pristine mountain streams, lakes and pine forests.
Dalat is a popular Vietnamese honeymoon destination
and with it's cool climate attracts foreign tourists. It is a pleasant
little town with many old colonial buildings and the cool climate
invites for beautiful walks in the area.
Phan Thiet is a small pleasant costal town and has become a popular
weekend beach destination as it can easily be reached from Ho Chi
Minh City by car.
International accommodation is available along
the coast from Phan Thiet to Mui Ne Beach, the nicest beach in this
area, which is famous for its beautiful sand dunes.
Ho Chi Minh City
Formerly known as Saigon, this bustling city is the largest town
of Vietnam and the economic center of the country.
The city has an eclectic architectural style; restored
colonial classics stand side-by-side with brand new developments,
traditional temples sit next door to sixties-style, American-influenced
architecture and amongst all that you find of course as well the
Stalinist concrete monstrosities that blight all major Socialist
It is an attractive and colorful travel destination
and offers something for everyone. It is a modern city with the
hassle of the fast every day life yet within that can the beauty
of the ancient culture be found everywhere.
Cu Chin Tunnels
The tunnel network of Cu Chi became legendary during the Vietnam
War when it facilitated the Viet Congs to control a large area on
enemy ground. The tunnels were build over a period of 25 years and
were around 250km long. The underground network provided sleeping
quarters, meeting rooms, hospitals and social centers. The tunnels
are between 0.5 to 1 m wide, with just enough space for a person
to crawl through.
The Mekong Delta is the southernmost region of Vietnam and renowned
for it's richness and cultivations. Here, the famous Mekong River
spreads into many arms before he flows into the South China Sea.
The Delta consists of many islands and the best way to discover
this area is by traveling through the many channels in a traditional
long tail boat. There are many floating markets and a visit to the
Delta is a nice and colourful experience.
The main cities in the Delta are Mytho, Can Tho
and Chau Doc on the Cambodian Border.
