Hanoi & Halong Bay Discovery

Day 1 Arrival - Hanoi
Morning arrival at Hanoi Airport. The elegant capital of Vietnam is the so-called Paris of the Orient. Hanoi's center is an architectural museum with its old colonial buildings, the broad tree-lined boulevards and the beautiful lakes. Transfer to your hotel. Lunch at local restaurant.

This afternoon we will enjoy a cyclo (bicycle trishaw) tour of Hanoi's Old Quarter, an intriguing and colorful maze of alleys where commercial life thrives. We will then visit Ngoc Son Temple on the edge of Hoan Kiem Lake. Dinner and accommodation at Hotel, Hanoi.
Lunch, Dinner

Day 2 Hanoi
Breakfast. This morning we will visit the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (closed on Monday, Friday & the whole October - November) and his former residence, a house built on stilts. Constructed in 1958, this is the house from which Ho Chi Minh directed the Vietnam War. Next we will visit the One Pillar Pagoda, a tiny shrine where couples make offerings when they want to have a child, and the Ethnology Museum, which gives a very interesting overview over the many different tribes in Vietnam. Lunch at local restaurant.

This afternoon we will continue our discovery of Hanoi with the Temple of Literature, Vietnam's oldest institution of higher education, founded in the 11th century. Next we will visit the Fine Art Museum where we can see some very intricate sculptures, paintings, lacquerware, ceramics and other traditional Vietnamese fine arts. This evening enjoy a Water Puppet Show, a unique Vietnamese traditional art. Dinner at local restaurant. Accommodation at Hotel, Hanoi.

Day 3 Hanoi - Halong
Breakfast. Pick up at your hotel in Hanoi. Drive to Bat Trang pottery village, the famous village situated approx. 15 km outside of Hanoi, surrounded by fertile farmland. Watch the artisans forming, painting and glazing their products, which are then baked for several days in huge kilns. From there we will continue to Haiphong, the largest seaport in North Vietnam, 102 km east of Hanoi (total driving time approx. 2 ½ hours). Lunch at local restaurant.

After lunch we will visit Visit Du Hang Pagoda and Hang Kenh Communal House, both with fine examples of traditional woodcarvings. We will then drive to Halong via 2 ferry crossings (driving time approx. 2 ½ hours). Arrival and check in hotel. Accommodation at Hotel, Halong.

Day 4 Halong Bay - Hanoi
Breakfast. To day we will discover the famous Halong Bay, listed as a World Heritage Area of outstanding natural beauty. "Dragon descending to the sea" as it is known in Vietnamese, picturesque Halong Bay has more than 1,000 limestone islets rising from the water, many of them containing beautiful grottoes. During our approximately 5 - hour boat trip we will visit one grotto and visit secluded bays and enjoy the beautiful scenery. A fresh Seafood lunch is prepared and served during the boat cruise. Drive back to Hanoi (approx. 3 hours) and transfer to your hotel. Accommodation at Hotel, Hanoi.

Day 5 Hanoi - Departure
Breakfast. This morning transfer to Hanoi Airport. Departure with international or domestic flight.
