Rakhine State
Union of Myanmar

Sittwe and Mrauk-U
Sittwe, Myaungbwe and Mrauk U are located north of Ngapali Beach, close to the Myanmar border with Bangladesh. Mrauk U is without doubt the most interesting and attractive archeological site in Myanmar, after Bagan. Although infrastructure is poor, a visit to the "lost city" of Mrauk U is a growing destination in Myanmar.

Sittwe
Sittwe is a small, quiet town, which boasts several interesting pagodas, monasteries and a magnificent black sand beach stretching as far as the eye can see. Sittwe is the starting point of a 5 to 8 hour boat ride to Mrauk-U. On the way, enjoy the riverine life and the surrounding countryside as the river winds its way to Mrauk U.

Mrauk-U
Mrauk U, up-river from Sittwe, was an ancient capital city in the 15th century and is only accessible by boat. Shittaung is the best preserved temple in Mrauk U, it was built in 1535 by King Minbin, the most powerful of the Rakhine kings. The caves, tunnels, passages and Buddha images of the Shittaung are utterly intriquing, some say the construction is similar to Borobudur in Indonesia.

There are 70 other named temples and many other stupas in the area surrounding Mrauk U, as well as the ruins of the royal palace and city walls.

Currently still a trip for adventurous travellers, Sittwe and Mrauk U will certainly one day be included in the itinerary of visitors to Myanmar.

Ngapali Beach - A Real Unspoiled Treasure
Your dream is to spend a holiday on a white beach, palm trees waving in the wind, blue sky, lots of sunshine, far away from the busy world. no noise other than the waves breaking on shore or the singing birds in the trees. Ngapali Beach is certainly the beach where this dream can come true ....

Ngapali Beach is located on the west coast of Myanmar, clsoe to the town of Thandwe and for long has been a favorite beach destination for Myanmar citizens as well as Yangon expatriates. The beach stretches along the kidney-shaped bay and is lined with thousands of palm trees. A few fishing village are hidden from sight by the trees, and Pearl Island is the only thing to be seen on the horizon. Underdeveloped and unspoiled, ngapali Beach is truely one of the most gorgeous beaches in South-East Asia.

Ngapali Beach is still to be considered a remote area. There are no medical facilities, access to this area is limited to somewhat irregular flights or an 18 hour overland drive from Yangon. There is no other entertainment in the area apart from what is offered in the hotel.

Travelling to Ngapali Beach
Both Air Mandalay and Yangon Airways operate regular flights to Thandwe, the town near Ngapali Beach. There are two international style resorts on the beach, making Ngapali Beach an attractive destination to relax after your Myanmar tour.
