RV Pandaw Cruise - Beyond Mandalay

Day 1 Departure Mandalay
1140 hours - Board RV Pandaw at Gaw Wein Jetty, close to downtown
Mandalay. Departure is at 1200 hours. Buffet lunch on board. Sail
up-river and morn at a small village north of Mandalay. Set dinner
and accommodation on board RV Pandaw.
Day 2 Kyauk-Myaung - Mingun
Breakfast. RV Pandaw arrives at the pottery village of Kyauk-Myaung,
famous for the production of large glazed pots, which are used all
over Myanmar. RV Pandaw continues down river to arrive at Mingun,
site of a brick pagoda towering 50 meters above the Ayeyarwady River,
and home to the world's largest intact bell. Lunch and set dinner
on board RV Pandaw.
Day 3 Amarapura - Ava
Breakfast. Start your morning Mandalay sightseeing tour with a visit
to the ancient city of Amarapura and to nearby U-Bein Bridge, which
is over a kilometer long and made entirely of teak. Also visit Innwa
(Ava), located on an island between the Ayeyarwady and the Myitnge
Rivers. You will visit Innwa by horse carts and pass through the
ancient city walls to visit a brick and stucco monastery called
Maha Aungmye Bonzan (also known as Ok Kyaung). Continue to Nanmyin
Watch Tower - the climb to the top offers lovely views over the
river. See also the impressive wooden monastery of Bagaya Kyaung.
Time permitting, visit some village homes to see local handicrafts,
such as silk weaving, cane mats and alms bowls. Return to RV Pandaw.
Lunch and dinner on RV Pandaw.
Day 4 Sagaing - Sameikkon
Breakfast. This morning walk through the Sagaing Hills, visiting
picturesque Sagaing Hill, which is perhaps the living center of
Buddhist faith in Myanmar today. Hillsides are dotted with numerous
pagodas and monasteries. Sail down-river past magnificent Sagaing
Hill, and then under Ava Bridge. Enjoy an afternoon on board, sailing
down the Ayeyarwady River. A stop will be made at the delightful
village of Sameikkon, which is connected to the world only by river.
This used to be a wealthy trading post and you can still see old
merchant's mansions, as well as a network of teak footbridges that
connect the village to the monastery. Visit the local school. Set
dinner and accommodation on board RV Pandaw.
Day 5 Yan-Da-Bo - Pakokku
Buffet breakfast. Full day on board RV Pandaw to enjoy watching
life on and along the banks of the Ayeyarwady River. Before lunch,
we stop at Yan-Da-Bo Village famous for its potteries. Stroll through
this very attractive village. Buffet lunch. A stop will be made
at Pakokku, a small town just south of the Chindwin confluence.
Visit the town by trishaw to see the extensive market area and weaving
shops. Set dinner and accommodation on board RV Pandaw, on the Ayeyarwady
Day 6 Pakokku - Bagan
Buffet breakfast on board. Enjoy the morning sailing towards Bagan.
1000 hours (approximately) - Arrive in Bagan. Disembark from RV
February 2003: 13th and 27th
March 2003: 6th
