2 Days / 1 Night - Tour
Phnom Penh to Siem Reap via Battambang
Kingdom of Cambodia
Day 1 Phnom Penh - Battambang
Departure from Phnom Penh with domestic flight to Battambang (flight
schedules are subject to change but normally there is a daily morning
flight). Your tour guide will meet you upon arrival and transfer
you to your hotel. The pleasant town of Battambang is Cambodia's
second biggest city. Located on the banks of Sangker River it retains
some of its French colonial charm. The town was first settled by
the Khmers in the 11th Century but was at many times in history
annexed by Siam (Thailand). As recently as 1947, the Thais officially
gave the province back to Cambodia. The town is now an important
center for international aid and demining efforts. After check-in
we will stroll through Battambang and visit the lively local market.
Late morning we will enjoy a scenic drive along the river, through
the back streets and rural areas of Battambang, to Wat Ek Phnom.
This temple is a pre-Angkor monument and certain parts of it are
still in good condition. Lunch at local restaurant.
This afternoon we will drive (approximately 45
minutes) out of town to Phnom Sampeou, a pleasant drive through
a wide plain of rice paddies. We will walk uphill for about 15 minutes
and then take a path into the jungle to see a unique Buddhist monastery
built in caves. There are several big caves and we will climb through
them (quite narrow) and find our way out of the caves close to the
top of the hill. From the top of Phnom Sampeou we have a great view
over the whole area and there is a temple housing the body of Lon
Nol (former Cambodian Prime Minister) who died in the sixties. Dinner
at local restaurant. Accommodation at Theo Hotel, Battambang.
Day 2 Battambang - Siem Reap
Breakfast. Early morning, transfer to the jetty and take the public
ferry boat from Battambang to Siem Reap. The boat's departure time
varies but it is usually early morning. Your tour guide will accompany
you on the boat as he is from Siem Reap. The boat trip takes approximately
3 hours. Upon arrival at Chhong Kneas port, transfer to your hotel
in Siem Reap town. Please note that this boat does not operate if
water levels are too low - normally from April to June.
