4 Days / 3 Nights - Tour
Siem Reap Discovery Tour of Angkor Wat
Kingdom of Cambodia

Day 1 Arrival in Siem Reap, Cambodia
Morning arrival at Siem Reap Airport. Transfer to your hotel (rooms may not be ready until the afternoon). Siem Reap is the nearest town to the incomparable Khmer temple complex of Angkor. From the 9th to 15th Century, Angkor was both the power base of a mighty military and political force, and the heart of a rich and sophisticated civilization. We will see massive stone monuments, wide majestic causeways, imposing gateways and towers - all in a wonderful jungle setting. Our morning is dedicated to a visit of the most famous temple - magnificent Angkor Wat. This architectural masterpiece was constructed in the 12th century and covers an area of about 210 hectares. We will enjoy exploring the many galleries with columns, libraries, pavilions, courtyards and ponds full of water reflecting the towering temple. Intricately carved bas reliefs extend the length of the outer walls and corridors, depicting mythological scenes and day to day life at the time of Angkor's construction. Lunch at Angkor Cafe in front of Angkor Wat.

This afternoon we will visit the "Great City" of Angkor Thom, which was probably more opulent than most European cities in the late 12th Century. Visits include the famous Bayon Temple, Phimeanakas Temple within the Royal Palace enclosure, Baphuon Temple, the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King. Dinner and accommodation at Hotel, Siem Reap.

Day 2 Siem Reap
American breakfast. This morning we drive beyond the Angkor complex passed the Banteay Srei temple, to a little chain of hills where we will park the car and continue our journey on foot. We will follow a white sand path which heads up into the jungle. This very pleasant walk takes us through the beautiful forest. Please note that there are several narrow and steep passages on the way. After approximately 40 minutes we will hear the sound of a waterfall that indicates that we are reaching our destination. This place offers at first sight no particular attractions except the natural environment. But by looking around carefully we will discover that the riverbed and the rocks around us are covered with carvings representing the gods of the Brahma religion dating back as far as the 11th century. The water runs over the sculptures of Vishnu, Lakshmi, Hanuman, Rama and many Lingas, which were carved in stone in the past to sanctify the water and to thank the gods for their gift. The sound of a small waterfall temps to follow the river further through the small gorge. Using bamboo stairs to pass a few escarped passages we finally discover the beautiful waterfall. Pick-nick lunch at the foot of the hill or lunch at local restaurant.

On the way back to Siem Reap we will visit the enchanting Banteay Srei. It appears that the temple was designed to leave no space undecorated, and the fine carvings in pink sandstone are quite unique. Time permitting we will also visit Banteay Samre - featuring elaborate architecture and exceptional carvings and stop at a local village. Early afternoon return to your hotel. Rest of the afternoon at leisure. Dinner and classical dance show at Apsara Theatre, Angkor Village (if available). Accommodation at Hotel, Siem Reap.

Day 3 Siem Reap
American breakfast. Today we will visit Beng Melea Temple which is still lost in the jungle. A rather bumpy 2 ½ hours drive through the beautiful countryside takes us there. Beng Melea is almost the size of Angkor Wat and is one of the largest ensembles build during the Khmer Kingdom. It is enclosed by a huge moat of 1200m x 900m and the temple presents in places a veritable chaos of fallen debris beside areas that remain absolutely intact - but everywhere vegetation reigns as master. During our visit we will have to walk over ruins and climb over trees to fully explore this site. The decoration of Beng Malea is simple and animated only in certain areas but you can find several bas-reliefs' showing scenes from the Khmer Mythology. During our visit will we enjoy our pick-nick lunch in midst this fantastic setting. Early afternoon we will drive on a logging highway along Phnom Koulen towards Siem Reap. Time permitting we can stop at some local villages on the way. Late afternoon return to Siem Reap. Buffet dinner at Chao Praya Restaurant. Accommodation at Hotel, Siem Reap.

Day 4 Depart Siem Reap, Cambodia
American Breakfast. This morning we will continue our temple visits, including Thommanon, Takeo - one of Angkor's great temple mountains, Ta Prohm - a favorite amongst visitors because it has become part of the jungle, Banteay Kdei with its very attractive carvings, Srah Srang - a Royal bathing place, Prasat Kravan with unique brick sculptures and the Royal City of Preah Khan which features fabulous carved stone lanterns and impressive sculptures. Lunch at your hotel and check-out.

This afternoon we will visit Les Chantiers Ecole, a handicraft center located in the center of Siem Reap. Les Chantiers Ecole was founded in 1992 in co-operation with the Ministry of Tourism and its aim is to revive that ancient art of Khmer workmanships. We will be able to visit the workshops where the students learn their skills and at the end of the visit see the finished products at the shop where they are for sales.
